‘When I grow up’

I was excited and in slight disbelief watching the FB livestream of the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards last night.

The awards, hosted by Waikato Society of Art, celebrate the best in painting and printing from across Aotearoa New Zealand.

My work ‘When I grow up’ was announced as the winner of the $2,000 merit award for painting. There were 407 entries and 52 finalists, so it was a complete shock. Waking up, I’m still excited today and want to thank everyone who was involved in the show, including the head of the judging panel, Dr. Ed Hanfling.

It’s 49 thoroughly enjoyable abstract pictures in one. It’s invention, again. And it’s the time you can spend with it. Savouring each colouristic incident.
— Dr. Ed Hanfling, Awards Judge

The show is on at the Pavilion, Hamilton Gardens, where you can also buy this piece. It’s free entry and the exhibition runs from 9 April to 19th April, 2022.

I will similar have works up on the website soon. If you have any questions or inquiries, please visit the contact page.
